Welcome to West Rusk's Counselor's Corner!

My name is Lindsay Moore and I am the counselor for West Rusk High School.  I am very excited to serve the students and faculty of West Rusk.  One of my goals this year will be helping students to prepare for college and earn scholarships and grants.  This will require students to be diligent in keeping up with deadlines and filling out paperwork.  A good place to start is the ACT/SAT, and Scholarship/ Financial Aid link.

An essential financial form to fill out is the FAFSA which all colleges and universities use to determine eligibility for student federal aid.  This is money that does not need to be paid back. One of the best things parents can do to help is to file their tax return as early as possible.  Also, you can use the FAFSA4caster to learn about the financial aid process and get an early estimate of your child’s eligibility (regardless of age) for federal student aid.

This step will help pave a path to graduation and beyond.

One more thing!  I urge all students to utilize the online career website to explore career interests and possibilities.  The website is amazing and will provide a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for students as they work their way toward graduation.  All login information can be found under the ‘Career Planning’ link on my webpage and the website is listed below:

There are many changes in graduation requirements this year, with the passing of House Bill 13.  One of major changes taking place next year is the required number of credits to graduate.  Starting with the 2010-2011 school year, all students will need 26 credits to graduate as opposed to the previous requirement of 24 credits.  These additional 2 credits will be fulfilled with an additional Math and Science requirement for all high school students.  This change might be referred to as the “4x4” which states that all students  will be required to take 4 Math, 4 Science, 4 Social Studies, and 4 English courses to graduate.  These additional credits will require for students to take a core class in a “4 x4” subject every year.  Please explore my web pages.

Again, I feel very fortunate to be hired as the new counselor at West Rusk Junior High and High School.  I genuinely care for students and believe in their ability to pave their own future and make their own happiness.

I will work hard to help the students at West Rusk to be kind, happy, responsible, successful, and on a path that will lead to an exciting career and future!

Gratefully,

Lindsay Moore
